Hero Of Hyrule

Objective

The purpose of this assignment was to create a:15 –: 30-second kinetic type animation. I had to find a quote from a movie, television show, or video game. The goal of this project was to use strong typography skills and work with abstract letterforms, fonts, colors, and hierarchy.

The programs being used for this project were Adobe Illustrator and Adobe After Effects.

The Process

The first step for this project was to find a quote to work with. I wanted to find something that I would be able to express well in the animation, something that had specific words that would allow me to add unique effects that would show there meaning to the audience. I decide to use a quote from the video game “The Legend Of Zelda Breath of the Wild.”

Kinetic Type Layout

Before starting the animation, I created a type layout in Illustrator to give myself an idea of how I wanted my type to be laid out and how I would animate the text. I used the colors blue and yellow for the text as well as the fonts Grenze Medium and Leckerli One. I mainly used Grenze Medium for the kinetic type because since the quote is from a medieval-themed fantasy world I wanted to use a font that would signify that type of era.

Kinetic Animation

Once I had a basis of how I wanted my animation to go I began animating in After Effects. I used a Plugin called SureTarget for transitions. Sure Target is a Free plug-in that automatically executes expressions for easy setup and use, this plugin is what allowed me to have smooth transitions with my animation, it causes the camera to move between different text parts by using nulls to lock on to different parts of the text which is what tells the camera where to move to.
